The mother of Gracious Amani, the girl from Githurai, whose voice caught the attention of American Singer Alicia Keys says the family is being threatened.
Speaking to Citizen’s TV Lilian Muli, Amani’s mother, Christine Ambuso, revealed that it has not been easy dealing with her daughter’s new-found fame.
Ambuso said that the family has been receiving threats from people who think they got money from different interviews.
“It has been very scary because after that video went viral, we started receiving threats. Even her brother was attacked; they were demanding for money. Wanasema lazima tuwatolee za macho” she said
She went on to narrate how they are forced to drop the girl off at school and ensure she is brought back home without incidents.
“Since that time, we have been accompanying Amani to school and ensuring that the teacher brings her back home. Her siblings have also been forced to stay indoors when not in school” she added.
Amani is also the daughter of a famous Luo musician known as Wuod Fibi. Wuod Fibi is however reported to have abandoned Amani and her mother more than seven years ago and started another life with a new family.
Amani’s video singing ‘girl on fire’ by Alicia Keys caught the attention of Kenyan sonstress Vivian who took her under her wing for mentorship and even got to be shared by Alicia Keys herself.
