Fifteen people are feared dead and 58 others injured after fire gutted down property worth millions of shillings in Nairobi’s Gikomba Market.
The fire is reported to have started at 2 AM on Thursday spreading fast to the stalls at the Kwa Mbao area.
Witness accused the caretaker of a particular flat that caught fire of closing the gate to block people from stealing leading to the deaths.
The victims reportedly died died after inhaling smoke while some were burnt beyond recognition.
St John’s ambulance stated that those who were injured were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Nairobi Regional Commissioner Kang’ethe Thuku, said some of the bodies have not yet been recovered from the scene of the fire.
