16 year old girl in Kibra elopes with man
A family in Nairobi’s Kibra slums is looking for their teenage daughter who reportedly eloped with a man in May.
Sixteen year old Irene Anyango reportedly disappeared from home on 28 May this year and is yet to return home.
Humphrey Lando a Children Protection Officer in Kibra says that the 16 year old’s mum suspects that she is living with a man in Kibra Slums.
“Irene’s mother Lilian Adhiambo came to me and told me of her predicament. Having rescued several other children in Kibra from early marriages as a child protection officer, i sought to help her,” says Lando.
“The first time we called the minor’s number, her phone number was answered by a man who immediately hung up after he heard that we were looking for the girl. We then again tried severally but the number was switched off,” says Lando.
Lando says that they first received reports that the girl who is in Form Two at Mawego Girls in Homabay County, had moved with the unknown man to Dagoretti but have since returned to Kibra.
Lando is appealing that whoever has information regarding the girl to report at the Children’s Office in Kibra Kwa DC.
