2015 champions ease to semis as Lake Region is bundled out

MILO Games2014 defending champions of boys’ soccer, Lake Region were today bundled out of the ongoing National Finals of the Kenya Primary School Ball Games and Gymnastics.

Lake Region were beaten 3 goals to one by Mau Region in their opening match yesterday and continued with the dismal show today when Coast Region beat them by 2 goals to nil in their second Pool B match.

Mau and Coast Regions will now join 2015 champions Nzoia plus Metropolitan in the semifinals on Friday.  In their second Pool A match, Nzoia thrashed Nothern Region by 4 goals to two keeping high their hopes of retaining the title at Hill High School.

The Nothern team had an impressive show which attracted hundreds of soccer fans.  Ali Osman from Garissa Primary school opened the score sheet at the 12th minute of the match. Nzoia equalized at the 27th minute when Nicholus Simuyu, a class eight student at Sengeteti Primary School, kicked an impressive header that left the goal keeper staring.

The Nothern team, which took about 5 days to arrive in Eldoret, obtained their second goal in the 48th minute from Nuru Mohammed of Wajir Primary who also plays for White Star Club based in Wajir.

Nzoia regions team captain who also plays from Lamasia FC based in Kakuma Refugee camp said his team was looking for nothing less than retaining the football boys’ title.

“We have a stronger team than last year and so our hopes of retaining the title are much higher,” said Ngeywo Godwin, Nzoia team captain who studies at Bukenoi Primary School and who scored the winning goal at the 78th minute of the match.

Chemenya Joseph of Korioshondet Primary School, Mogosa Alliance of Lokitaung Primary scored two other goals for Nzoia boys.
