2016 Edition of Sotokoto Half Marathon Launched

SOTOKOTOThe route for this year’s Nairobi Sotokoto half Marathon race scheduled for 3rd July is to undergo change.Race promoter Douglas Wakihuri announced today.

The 21km half Marathon competitors will get to run through the Southern Bypass from Carnivore Junction towards Bomas of Kenya and take a U-turn after Uhuru Gardens and head towards Kikuyu through to the underpass that joins Dagoretti and back to Uhuru Gardens.

For the 5 km competitors will run along Mombasa road from the southern Bypass and make a U-turn at Mugoya estate back to Uhuru Gardens.

The Sotokoto half marathon promoter Douglas Wakihuri announced that the move is intended to break the norm of using the same routes and also ease the busy traffic along Lang’ata road.

“We only intend not to inconvenience Lang’ata road users by blocking a few roads.It is also good to market other beautiful roads we have in the country.This is basically the reason why we are making a change in the routes”,Douglas said.

The Sotokoto half Marathon which took a break since 2014,however expects to host special Intellectual marathon runners and the Masters Categories respectively.

Intellectual runners will include the wheelchair race while the masters race will include retired elite runners and participants who have hit the age of 40 years and above.

“Disability and age should not be a hindrance for anybody to continue showcasing their talents”.added Mr.Wakihuri.


Meawhile,Sotokoto half Marathon has a new theme,”Heart of giving” .

“This year we are holding a race with an intention to give back to the society.

“There is a need to give the intellectual disability an opportunity to to be able to prove themselves,therefore we are going to have the wheelchair category which is very important and it is also one way to give back to the society”,said Mr. Wakihuri.

Proceeds from Sotokoto Safari Half Marathon will go into developing one of its schools which is located in Kibra. The marathon in conjunction with its sponsors,Wadi Degla Kenya,Rotto among other corporates aim to change the socio-economic outlook of impoverished children in the slum.

The school provides basic needs services, as well as counseling, life and social skills training and recreational activities for the children of Kibra.

The funds provided by this event will be used to provide food, clothing, and activities for the children who are living at the shelter.


Sotokoto Half Marathon Oganizer,Head coach Douglas Wakihuri is also calling out on more corprates to assist in the sponsorship of the marathon.

The 2016 Sotokoto half marathon race targets 1,200 participants.
