Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a nine member gang believed to be behind car break ins in Mombasa.
The nine suspects aged between 21 and 32 years old were arrested from a house inNyali in the wee hours of Thursday following a stealth operation by the DCI.
“Nine suspects of car breaking and theft who have been operating within Mombasa County were today in the wee hours of the morning arrested by @DCI_Kenya Nyali detectives following a stealth operation at Furaha Apartments Hse no. A08 in Nyali, Mombasa” read a tweet from DCI
During the arrest,three motor vehicles believed to be used by the gang as getaway cars were recovered.
“Three motor vehicles (KCV 751S Toyota Allion, KBV 161Q Toyota Mark X and KCG 448C Nissan Note) believed to be getaway cars used by the gang during criminal operations were also detained” added the DCI
The suspects reportedly had a night of heavy drinking and partying prior to their arrest.
“On searching the house, several rolls of bhang, shisha pot, a packet of shisha, Ksh.100,000 in one thousand denominations and assorted mobile phones were found,” said the DCI in a statement
The suspects were identified as Imran Faud Mohamed (28), Ismael Fuad Mohamed (26), Kelvin Osebe (30), Omar Safari Sanje (29), James Otieno Ochieng (32) Nancy Ekasiva Aloo (29), Julie Saida Magdalene (22), Brenda Juma (21) and Hamoud Mohamed Hamisi (30).
The suspects have been placed in police custody as further investigations continue.
