Set Of Bad Misfortunes Almost Ended My Career In Music, Eltezzy


If you are a keen follower of the Kenyan music, the name Eltezzy is not new to your ears.Born Samwel Msagha, Eltezzy won the Chaguo la Teenez Award and Pure Oxygen Jam in the early 2000s with his run away hit ‘Cheki Dem’ courtesy of the Insyder Magazine.He proceeded on a tour of six months in South Africa and he became the first Kenyan artiste to land an interview at Channel O Studio’s.

Soon after, Eltezzy got off the radar not until the other day so what really happened. Well, Eltezzy  blames a set of bad misfortunes which almost ended his career, from his father looing his job,The death of legendary rapper’s E-Sir and K-Rupt who were his mentors to being locked up  in prison on tramped up charges as his greatest undoing.

“So kurudi Kenya apo ndio kina E-Sir walipass na kina K-Rupt na hao ndio walikuwa wamenishika, walikuwa ma mentor wangu pia walikuwa wananiguide so first of all nikaloose mentorship alafu ya pili pia mzae akapoteza works so ikakuwa mambo yako magumu… Nilijipata maze niko Inda(Industrial Area prison) nimeshtakiwa na murder, robbery with violence nikakaa rumande” recalled Eltezzy.

When he went behind bars, Eltezzy had just began working at the American Embassy, he saw the position go up in smoke.Ladyluck which he saw in the appointment was never realized,He had been eking out a living selling scrap metals.

As fate would have it, Eltezzy was freed when the new constitution was promulgated, it allowed murder convicts access to bail.

“Nilikaa rumande fortunately wakaenda wakapitisha katiba mpya ikakuwa mtu pia anaweza patiwa bond so hivyo ndio nikitoka nikarudi mtaani, nikaenda American embassy nikaambiwa tu ‘hatuwezi fanya kazi na mtu ako na kesi,” stated Eltezzy.

Bouncing Back Big

Fast forward, Eltezzy is back and roaring to reclaim his position in the music industry. So far he has more than 10 video’s out.


Last year, during Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens , Eltezzy was the artist behind the day’s theme song ‘Kenya Yasonga Mbele’ which ushered  in President Kenyatta.

He has also praised the doyen of opposition politics in Kenya, Raila with the song Azimio which he  performed a fortnight ago during the party’s National Delegates Convention(ODM NDC) at Kasarani which was also attended by President Kenyatta.He showed gratitude to Media Personality Majimaji who doubles up as a creative director at Baba’s secrerariat for making it all possible.

The 2021 NEMA (National Environment Management Authority) brand ambassador looks forward to staging his upcoming shows with a band.His battles with life’s setbacks is well documented in his song ‘someday’.
