Veteran Bongo Flava artiste Ambwene Allen Yesaya popularly known as A.Y is set to be inducted to the Bongo Flava ‘Hall Of Fame’ locally referred to as Bongo Flava Honors this Friday 26th, 2023. A.Y will receive his award from the project’s brainchild fellow artiste and activist, Mr. 11 Sugu(Dei Waka).
The day will also see A.Y stage a neck-breaking performance backed up by a band.
This is a special recognition to A.Y for his immense contribution towards the growth of Bongo Flava.
Musical Background
A.Y kicked off his musical career in 1996 with the group S.O.G.
The singer cum rapper also had a stint at East Coast Team which was led by then rap god, Crazy GK.
It’s from the same unit that A.Y had his close pal, Mwana Fa now M.p for Muheza and Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports.
Both A.Y and Mwana Fa were formidable members of the group which saw the birth of some of their popular hits like Komaa Nao, Itikadi and Ama Zangu Ama Zao among others.
However, around 2002 both A.Y and Mwana Fa bolted out of East Coast Team in pursuit of solo careers.
They later dropped hits like Habari Ndio Hiyo and Bado Nangoja Ageuke among others.
This extended to Kenya where he tapped artistes like Jaguar, Amani and Avril among others in sure fire hits.
His solo releases have also performed quite well from Yule to Usijaribu you name them.
When A.Y steps on a beat, the Mtwara born star is so unpredictable.
At one moment he would be singing with the next one dropping heavy bars.
He attracted the money towards Hip hop, what’s known as ‘commercializing’.
Some people refer to him as ‘Mzee Wa Commercial’ for being a pioneer in the game.
To prove these, A.Y is among the top Bongo Flava artists leading a comfortable lifestyle.
When he feels like he’s bored in his Tanzanian mansion he flies out to his US home huh!
Indeed, A.Y is a living legend even Alikiba came out affirming that he inspired him.
