Celebrated , fallen jazz and Afro artiste, Lydia Achieng Abura was finally laid to rest Sunday at her father’s farm in Nandi county.
The late Abura passed on, on October 2016 after fighting depression for quite some time. Before her death, Achieng had been going through hell whilst seeking funds to airlift her 23-year-old sick son to get treated. Achieng’s one and only son has and still is battling with Sickle Cell Anaemia.
Just as the news of her demise shook Kenyans- exposing hypocrisy and disunity from the music industry, so did her funeral.
Y’all can recall how artistes, comedians, politicians and social media influencers flocked their respective social media platforms with Condolences messages to her family not to mention the praises showered on Abura upon her demise. What followed was a revelation of how the very same people had turned her down when she called them to a medical bill fundraising ceremony to raise funds for her son’s condition. Only 10 people showed up then …….was a better gesture than her burial ceremony.
Abura’s burial was only attended by family, locals and a few artiste namely Suzanna Owiyo, Idi Achieng and Hellen Mtawali. Ida Odinga also graced the event.
Sad as it sounds, that’s the reality of how hypocrite we are. Who are our friends?? Who will stand by us to the last minute??? Where did loyalty and concern for others go?? Did money rob us everything including empathy????
Am DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!! Very.
