The COPA Coca-Cola U-16 football Nairobi region finals is set for this weekend, the 29th – 30th June at Lenana School and Dagoreti High for this year’s secondary school games.
A total of eight boys’ and eight girls’ schools will battle it out for the Nairobi top spot and an opportunity to represent the region in the national finals scheduled for July 2019 in Kisumu.
Nairobi regional strong opponents in the boys category; Dagoreti High school and Upper Hill High school have both booked a ticket to the region’s finals.
In the run up to the finals, Dagoreti outplayed Moi Forces Academy 3-0, overran Kangemi Boys 6-0 and concluded their match-up to the regional finals with a 2 nil drubbing of Ndururuno High School.
Dogoreti comes to the finals with a clean sheet having won all their preliminary matches.
They will face Ofafa Jericho High School in a high fever match to be played at the Dagoreti grounds.
Upper Hill High School opened their regional campaigns with a 4 nil whitewash of Jamuhuri High School before defeating Dandora and Sunshine High School 3 nil respectively to seal a place in the Nairobi region finals.
Upper Hill will faceoff with Moi Forces academy at the Nairobi finals at the Lenana pitch.
Other schools that made it to the regional finals are Langata High School with nine points, Uhuru High school, Ofafa Jericho High School and Waylight High school with 6 points each.
Lenana High School also cruised to the regional finals as hosts with 4 points.
In the Girls category, Dagoreti Mixed High School bludgeoned Ngara girls 12 nil in a one sided match, this followed a 2 nil win over Embakasi Garrison Girls High School and then defeated OLM SM 3 nil to secure a place in the Nairobi finals.
Dagoreti mixed girls will tackle Starehe Girls at the finals to be played at Lenana School.
Pangani Girls, are a step closer to the national finals after booking a place for the Nairobi region finals with wins in their three fixtures during preliminaries. Pangani secured nine points by beating Starehe Girls High School with a solitary goal, St. Aloysius Girls 2 nil and closed their Campaign with a 4-1 win against Embakasi Girls High School. Pangani Girls will play Buruburu Girls in the finals to be played at Dagoreti pitch.
former champions Olympic High School will defend their national place at the regional finals following a convincing 6 points finish of the preliminaries having out classed Dandora and Maina Wanjigi High Schools 4 nil respectively. Olympic with face their national campaigns with a fixture against OLM at the Dagoreti grounds.
The girls place at the nationals is shaping up to be an epic battle considering Dagoreti Mixed High School is a formidable opponent seek to have a stub at the national scene. The other team that will be in contention for a place at the national are Starehe Girls, Ruai Girls, Buruburu Girls and Highridge Girls High School.
