Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has nominated hip hop Star Nikki Wa Pili as a District Commissioner for Kisarawe.
Suluhu follows the footsteps of her predecessor the late Magufuli who also tapped talent in the creative industry as part of his government’s composition.
The position filled by Nikki was previously held by former bongo movie actress cum business woman Jocate Mwegelo who was moved to Temeke in Daressalam.
The ‘Kihasara’ rapper joined other nominated leaders such as Colonel Ahmed Abbay Ahmed representing Kibiti and Khadija Ally for Mkuranga in taking the oath of office.
Notably missing from the ceremony was Edward Gowele the new District Commissioner for Rufiji who is currently in hospital battling an ailment.
Speaking to the press after his appointment Nikki had this to say, “Tuko apa kwa kutekeleza ilani ya chama ambapo lengo lake ni moja tu,kuletea maendeleo wananchi kwa hiyo tunatakiwa kutumia uwezo wetu,muda wetu, talanta zetu, tushirikiane kuhakikisha kwamba tunaleta maendeleo huko kwa wananchi wa pwani na Kisarawe kwa ujumla.”
Joining him for the big day was his wife, who thanked the president for the nomination while also revealing her husband’s future prospects of becoming the president.
Also present were members of his musical family ‘Weusi’ comprising of Joh Makini, G Nako and Lord Eyez,appearing dapper in suits.
Nikki Wa Pili promised to carry forward his endeavors in the art industry.
“Mchango wangu wa sanaa utaendelea kuwepo katika ajenda zote za sanaa za kitaifa, za kimikoa naza kiwilaya, kwa hiyo yote nikiyokuwa nikifanya nitaendelea kuyachangia na nitatumia nafasi yangu niliyopata,” added Nikki in part of his statement.
