Ann Kananu Mwenda is now the Acting Governor of Nairobi City County after speaker Ben Mutura relinquished the position days after she was sworn in as substantive Deputy Governor.
According to Mutura the law requires the Deputy Governor to immediately assume the roles of the governor when the office falls vacant saying his exit will now pave way for smooth transition.
“Accordingly I now therefore relinquish my acting position as the governor Nairobi city County Government and resume my duties as the speaker Nairobi County Assembly and allow HE Ann Kananu to proceed and assume the position of Governor in a substantive manner,” Mutura said.
In her speech she promised to bring sanity in Cityhall and enhance service delivery.
Kananu now awaits swearing in, a processes that will be done by committee of assumption of office.
