Athletics Kenya have have postponed this weekend’s national trials for the All Africa Games in honour of world record holder for the men’s marathon Kelvin Kiptum.
New Date To Be Announced
The event was scheduled for February 16 and 17 at the Nyayo National Stadium and Athletics Kenya has noted that a different date for the event will be announced.
“Athletics Kenya wishes to inform all athletes and the entire athletics fraternity that the Trials for the African Games which were scheduled to take place on 16th and 17th February 2024 at The Nyayo National Stadium have been cancelled in honor of the late Kelvin Kiptum.
“The selection process for the team that represents the country at the African Games which will be held on 18th to 22nd March 2024 in Accra, Ghana, will be announced in due course,” the statement from AK read.
Police Make arrests
Meanwhile three of the four individuals allegedly involved in the visit, which occurred just days before Kiptum’s untimely demise, have been apprehended and are currently undergoing questioning by authorities.
Keiyo South OCPD Abdullahi Dahir said they were persons of interest and were grilling the three to establish their motive.

Burial Arrangements
Kelvin Kiptum will be laid to rest next Saturday, February 24, 2024 at their family home in Kaptagat.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba affirmed that Kiptum, hailed as a national hero, would receive posthumous honors reflective of his impactful life.
Kiptum was killed on Sunday night following a grisly road accident at Kaptagat area on the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road.
