Auctioneer Behind Demolition Of Ksh. 80 Million Westlands House Freed On Cash Bail

Zacharia Baraza, an auctioneer who effected looting and demolition of a Ksh.80 million home in Westlands on November 4 has been released on a Ksh.200,000 bail.

The Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe however ordered Baraza to cooperate with the investigators by reporting to the investigating officer whenever he is summoned to do so.

“I do not believe the investigators need 14 days, the accused person is an officer of this court an auctioneer, the case merits the respondent to be out on bail, it is my finding that he be granted a cash bail of ksh 200,000,and report to the investigating officer whenever summoned,” Principal Magistrate Shikwe ruled.

The prosecution wanted Baraza to be detained for 14 days and investigators to access the demolished property to quantify the damage and create an inventory of items allegedly stolen from the house during the demolition.

The auctioneer was arrested over the forceful eviction of Niraj Shah and Avani Shah from their house in Westlands area, Nairobi.
