Azimio Coalition Secretariat to Name Nairobi Gubernatorial Aspirant on Thursday

The Azimio Secretariat will on Thursday this week unveil the coalition’s Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.

According to sources the Azimio top brass led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga held a closed door meeting today at statehouse where the Nairobi flag bearer seat was discussed and a decision reached.

“Yes we were in State House and everything has been discussed and finalized it is a just a matter of time before the secretariat makes a major announcement …I can’t reveal more than that,” the source said.

In a brief and intense press conference ODM gubernatorial candidate Tim Wanyonyi asked his supporters to remain calm and wait for the Azimio Secretariat communication but he was optimistic that he would carry the day.

“Ladies and gentlemen, leadership is also a calling, throughout my political career, the people I serve have been the backbone of my leadership, it has never been about me, I listen to the people. The coalition which I belong to, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya is in consultations and will be issuing a statement soon about Nairobi. So we will wait for that statement when it comes and from the beginning I always say ‘si mimi, ni sisi’ it is not about me it is about us. I am still in the race, but the decision of the coalition will either add wait on it or subtract it. So we will wait for that communication which will be soon,” said Wanyonyi.

The Azimio gubernatorial ticket is hotly contested by Tim and Business mogul Richard Ngatia. Other candidates include current governor Ann Kananu, former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

Ngatia says he is not ready to accept anything less than the governor’s post. “We have invested a lot in our people and our activities and we don’t expect anything else apart from the top seat,” Ngatia.
