Azimio allied MPs have likened the arguments of Kenya Kwanza MPs on the Finance Bill 2023 to the Shakahola cult.
Deputy Minority Leader Robert Mbui says that telling Kenyans to accept the pain that the Finance Bill 2023 will give in order to enjoy later is similar to what Shakahola massacre victims were promised.
“When you tell us that you want Kenyans to feel pain now, I don’t know they will go to heaven sooner or start enjoying themselves, it reminds me of Shakahola. That is what the people of Shakahola told people. They told them sell all your earthly assets, come to us, starve and suffer in pain, die and see heaven.
Mbui argued that allowing the bill to pass is hurting hustlers the more.

“We don’t want our hustlers to die, we will speak for them. They are suffering enough Mr. Speaker. We will fight for them,” he stated.
Mbui further described the bill as a drum of poison that must be rejected in its totality.
“This is the most contentious Finance Bill; I look at it as a drum of poison. We must reject it because the economic situation is dire. Kenyans are struggling. That is why Mr Speaker you saw out team of Azimio going to the streets because somebody needs to start caring for the hustlers,” he said.
Migori County Woman Representative Fatuma Mohammed stated that her constituents and Kenyans at large have asked her to reject the bill.
“We are not interested in the 1.5% housing levy; we want food on our tables. Our children are going hungry; we don’t need houses… Keep your agenda and stop shakaholaring us,” said Fatuma.
