It was a sigh of relief today for parents and learners in Soweto, Embakasi East constituency as the Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino issued bursary cheques from the National Government Constituency Development Funds(NG-CDF) to the learners in Embakasi East.

At least 4,500 applications from different secondary schools, middle level colleges and universities, 4500 were successful.

Another 500 were however rejected in what Babu termed as error of commission or omission.

“Among the five hundred unsuccessful applicants, some of them did not attach fee the structure, or some applicants made application for primary school, we only consider learners in secondary school and tertiary level,” Babu said.

During the issuance of the cheques to the successful applicants Babu also took chance to slam the naysayers on the credibility of the criteria for determination of vulnerable learners, the outspoken lawmaker said ethic extractions of the applicants were not used determine the fate of the applicants.

“Let no one say that the successful applicants were vetted based on their tribal extractions, because  at birth no one chooses a tribe, our staff did a vulnerability assessment for each applicants,” he added.

A total of Ksh. 23 Million was shared among 4,500 applicants.
