As government continues to pursue those associated with Azimio demonstrations, it was all drama at Milimani law courts when Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino was presented in court.
The agitated crowd flocked court room and with little audience with the proceedings they started chanting praises to Babu.
Overwhelmed with the distraction the police forcefully ejected them and as soon as they were at the Milimani law Court main entrance they were lobbed with teargas canisters forcing them to flee.
“Uuuuiii! Uuuuiii Babu Babu Babu,Hatutakubali mtu wetu kunyanyaswa Uuuuiii!Uuuui.” They protested.
Babu was later charged along side Self-made Bunge la Wananchi chairman Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho.
Babu was charged with conspiracy to cause chaos or subversive activities.
The two denied the charges before chief magistrate court Lukas Onyina.
Arraignment of the MCAs
Meanwhile as Babus’drama was on,two other MCAs Wilfred Odalo of Mabatini and his Ngei ward counterpart Redson Otieno were also presented before court.
The prosecution failed to present the charges against them instead sought for custodial orders to continue holding them for 14 more days.
In a miscellaneous application filed by Inspector John Kariuki, they were investigating cases of conspiracy to commit an offence, Preparation to commit an offence with unlawful demonstrations and riots, being in possession of firearm without a valid firearm certificate and organizing public meeting and procession among other related offences.
“The Respondents herein participated in meetings to plan and organize for unauthorized demonstrations planned to take place within Nairobi City County and other Counties within the country on the 18, 20 and 21 day of July, 2023”, the officer said in his affidavit.
