Baby thief locked in remand


A Nairobi court has put the suspect accused of stealing a two-week-old twin baby at Kenyatta National Hospital in remand for five days to allow the prosecution conclude investigations.

Edinnah Kemunto was arraigned before Milimani Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot under miscellaneous application seeking to hold her for five days.

Lead investigator Emanuel Kiptoo told the court that preliminary investigations had revealed that the woman is involved in baby-trading syndicate in the country.

The woman on Tuesday told journalists that her apparent accomplice had deserted her after word quickly spread that she had stolen a baby.

The prosecution, therefore asked for more time to travel to travel to Kisii County and the Western region of Bungoma where Kemunto is supposedly married.
