Banning Alcohol May Kill Addicts, Mututho
The former chairman of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) John Mututho has warned against banning alcohol in homes saying that it may lead to death of addicts.
Mututho says that compared to Covid19 alcohol ban will cause more deaths.
Pubs and restaurants have been under fire for not following Covid 19 guidelines especially curfew with health experts now saying the joints have become spots that breed the spread of Covid 19.
According Mututho the proposal by the Ministry of Health to ban the consumption of alcohol inside bars and entertainment zones would dent NACADA’s effort to fight consumption of illicit brews.
The proposed Covid-19 Sale of Alcoholic Drinks Rules 2020, provide that businesses, where alcohol is sold, will operate between 9am-7:30pm.
Kenya ha so far recorded 14,805 cases and 260 deaths from Covid19.
