The Building Bridges Initiative Secretariat has today submitted 4.4 million signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Speaking at the event IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati says the next move will be asking for a budget from the treasury for the whole referendum processes.
“The commission has received the 4.4 million signatures they shall be verified and then send the bill to county assemblies… we have also formed a referendum committee and we shall update Kenyans on the next steps including the costs once we form a referendum question,” Chebukati said.
Meanwhile the secretariat co-chair Dennis Waweru has asked the commission to speedily carry out the process saying the 4.4 million signatures against the required one million is a nod to efficiency.
“Once you verify the first 1 million signatures please send the bill to the county assemblies so that we move ,” Waweru said.
