Truck and bus manufacturer, Isuzu East Africa (Isuzu EA), has today awarded World Marathon Record holder Eliud Kipchoge with the promised Isuzu D-Max Luxury Double Cab after breaking the world record in the recently concluded Berlin Marathon.
The new D-Max was awarded to Eliud Kipchoge at a colorful homecoming ceremony where he was escorted through Eldoret town by a caravan of Isuzu D-Max pickups amidst cheering fans.
Speaking at the home coming ceremony in Eldoret, Isuzu EA Managing Director, Rita Kavashe, noted that they have been waiting for the day Eliud would walk away with the Luxury D-Max Double Cab and make the country proud.
“Approximately one year ago, we announced our first ever marathon sports partnership with Eliud Kipchoge and a promise of a brand-new Luxury D-Max Double Cab if he broke the world record.
Today, we are happy to keep our promise and award Eliud with this new Luxury D-Max Double Cab to commemorate his 2:01:39 record,” she said.
“This is a day we have longed for since the partnership signing and announcement,” added Rita.
Rita mentioned the company’s joy in knowing its product added an extra leg that helped Eliud break the world record.
“As a company, we are very much pleased to see Eliud Kipchoge not just performing well, but excelling in his marathon career through the aid of our Double Cab pickup,” said Rita.
“We are excited to hear from him that our D-Max added an extra leg that helped him set a new world marathon record.”
Rita reiterated Isuzu EA’s support towards the growth of sports talent in the country as they award Eliud with the car and take their partnership to the next level.
An elated Eliud Kipchoge was happy to finally drive away with the D-Max noting the importance of corporate and Government support in growing local sports
“Right from the moment when the idea of breaking the world record was conceived to the execution of the idea, a lot of work has been done.
Transforming the idea to 2:01:39 required a good deal of effort as various challenges came in the way.
I was not alone though, I had my family who walked along with me, my coach and Isuzu EA who provided unconditional support,” said Mr. Kipchoge.
“However, I would also like to urge corporates and Government to step up their support for local sports teams and individuals so as to grow sporting talent in Kenya.”
Eliud Kipchoge’s coach, Patrick Sang, was delighted when Eliud was presented with the D-Max indicating that this would motivate young athletes to work hard.
“I am very happy to finally see Eliud receiving the D-Max as a reward for his achievements.
This is great motivation for young athletes in this area to emulate Eliud’s character and discipline as they could also be recipients of such awards,” said Mr. Sang.
The D-Max award comes a few weeks after Isuzu EA renewed its partnership, valued at Ksh 20 million, with Eliud to remain its Isuzu D-Max Brand Ambassador for two years.
Eliud Kipchoge will still retain the Double Cab issued to him for training purposes and enjoy full vehicle servicing during the period of the partnership.
