Opposition MCAs in the Nairobi County Assembly have vowed not to participate in vetting of Sonko’s nominee for Deputy Governor post describing the process to carry out the exercise as shambolic and unlawful.
According to minority leader David Mberia says that the move by majority leader Charles Thuo to call for sittings to vet nominee Ann Mwendwa is unprocederal and is not mandated to do so.
He has accused Thuo of being used by Governor Sonko to drive unlawful agenda of the executive in the assembly.
‘‘We have directed all our members not to attend that exercise called by Thuo because it is an illegality and it’s only the speaker who is the chair of the appointing committee with the powers to call for such a meeting.’’ Mberia said.
Meanwhile Thuo has denied calling for a meeting to vet Deputy Governor nominee terming the claims by Mberia as misplaced.
In an advisory by the court , DG nominee will go through the same test as of the governor before being appointed.
Mwendwa is currently serving as chief officer disaster management .
