Boda Boda Association Demands Justice For Slain Koyole Boda Boda Rider

Boda boda Safety Association of Kenya is demanding a thorough investigation into the murder of a bodaboda rider in Kayole last week.

Boda boda Safety Association of Kenya Chairman Kevin Mubadi wants the police to speed up the matter and those responsible be brought to book.

‘‘We are calling on the police to move with speed and tell us what happened and those behind the killing of one John Kairu at curfew time… Even if he violated the curfew restrictions we have courts why should somebody kill because of that?’’Mubadi told Ghetto Radio News.

‘‘To the police officers not all crimes are caused by boda boda riders we want to be treated like other Kenyans out there…we are tired of these killings every day,” he stated.

The killing of the rider sparked demonstrations in Kayole in last week by youths demanding justice.

Thirty eight -year-old John Kiiru was allegedly killed by police officers enforcing the 10pm to 4am curfew.

Protesters engaged the officers in a day long battle that also saw many arrested and reported looting incidences in some areas.

“The police first hit him with a rungu and he fell off his motorbike. When we woke up the following morning, we found him dead with bullet wounds on his body,” said one protester.

“The police cannot compete with corona in killing us. Police officers moving around Kayole in a Probox have made this place inhabitable,” said another protester.

“Even old women cannot go about their trade in peace. Police officers are harassing them… these are people trying to earn an honest living,” said the protester.

Meanwhile Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said officers will investigate the incident and take necessary action.

“There is no need to cause more trouble this matter will be addressed,” he said told the media.
