Boda boda riders operating in the Nairobi Central District now want the Nairobi Metropolitan Services to construct them stages and holding points before being forced to leave the CBD.
In an interview with Ghetto Radio News Bodaboda safety Association of Kenya chairman Nairobi branch Kennedy Onyango says they are worried that NMS is only concentrating on how to create stages and bus termini for matatus leaving out boda boda.
‘‘We are worried that they will not spare us in the CBD but NMS should gives us stages outside town because what we are witnessing them doing will only help matatus not boda boda riders who are also major player in the transport sector,’’ he said.
The NMS has rolled out mega plan to decongest the Nairobi Central Business District with creation of holding grounds outside town.
Muthurwa market stage, Parkroad in Ngara, Railways and Globe Cinema are under refurbishment in bid to have all Matatus out of CBD in the decongestion process.
Already Nairobi Metropolitan Service is implementing the Nairobi Urban Mobility Plan and effecting the Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) infrastructure on the streets to safeguard the pedestrians’ safety.
The project, especially in the Central Business District, is being done in collaboration with the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Authority (NaMATA) and other road agencies.
