Kennedy Omondi’s body was retrieved on Thursday after almost a whole week’s search.

Omondi’s body was found by fishermen from Kogonga Beach in Rarieda Sub County.

While Confirming the incident, the area Senior chief Shadrack Oluoch Ochola said the deceased  went for fishing alone on monday evening around 4pm and unfortunately due to strong wind, the boat overturned and he drowned.

“At around 4pm on Monday , there was a strong wind in the lake, the deceased had gone for fishing alone unfortunately he did not come back which in turn caused suspicion amongst Kobutho beach community. The BMU took an engine to check his whereabouts only to find an empty boat,” said Ochola.

This incident follows a boat tragedy that happened seven months ago, where a boat carrying eight passengers drowned in Arongo Beach killing five people.

The five were visitors from Nyandarua County who had come for a burial and were on their first time boat ride.

Ochola has asked fishermen and members of the public using water vessels to follow safety precautions while in the lake.

“It really pains that some people still ognores safety precautions, before you board any water vesssel, you should take precautions by putting on life jacket and the boat should meet the required standard.

He also called upon the Kenya Coast guard and Maritime authority to intensify their patrols in Lake Victoria and arrest those ignoring the set water regulations and requirements.
