Matatu owners association has directed all its members to increase fare by ten shillings per route in Nairobi following the government’s move to impose 16% VAT on petroleum products.
Briefing the media MOA chairman Simon Kimutai says they have no time now to negotiate with the government as the their previous efforts on the same to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich have been futile.

MOA has also set 30 shillings for minimum fare in all routes in Nairobi city.
He further raised his concerns over what he term as exortotion by the traffic officers saying the sector loses 1 billion shillings money to police as bribe.
