Nigerian Afro beats star, Burna Boy has cancelled his South African concert over disorganization.
Burna Boy was set to headline a concert at the 94k capacity FNB stadium in Johannesburg on September 23rd 2023.
According to a statement from Burna Boy’s management, the promoters failed to meet his contractual obligations.
These ranged from financial, production and technical aspects leading to the cancellation.
“Sadly, It is with great regret that we must inform you that despite my teams effort, the show in Johannesburg on September 23rd will be cancelled due to inability of the promoters to fulfill their contractual financial, production and technical obligations” partly read the statement.
It further added that the production vendors had not been paid to meet his standards.
“Production vendors have apparently still not been paid and as such it is evident at this point that the agreed production standard needed for this venue size cannot be achieved” It continued.
The event already had music lovers paying in advance for Burna Boy’s experience.
However, with the show now cancelled, the management directed ticketing companies to make a refund in full.
Burna Boy’s team further shared their disappointment affirming to stage another show in future.
“We hereby state that all ticketing companies must ensure that everyone is refunded in full.
Deepest apologies to all the fans, looking forward to seeing you all soon!” summed up the statement.
Since he shot to a global star, Burna Boy has staged two shows in Africa.
The first one was in South Africa September 28th 2022 followed by Nigeria January 2nd 2023.
His Nigerian show was riddled with controversy as Burna Boy took longer to hit the stage.
He had complained over the poor sound system and arrangement.
