The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has offered to help Egypt, Africa’s largest winners of African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophies, after the loss of the historic cup.
CAF in a tweet on Sunday made this known and recent developments point to the fact that the football governing body is ready and willing to help Egypt recover the memorabilia.
“CAF has learnt with shock reports of the missing AFCON trophy from the Egyptian Football Association secretariat. Our doors are open and the EFA can count on our support in the search for the priceless memorabilia.” CAF tweeted.
It should also be noted that CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad has arrived in Egypt on a working visit on Sunday. This visit can also be connected with the missing trophy.
The Egyptian federation on Friday announced the disappearance of some of the old trophies from the association’s stores, confirming that they will probe on the situation to determine the trophies’ fate.
The EFA discovered the trophies’ disappearance during their preparation to redevelop the association’s headquarter as well as organizing a show of trophies while celebrating 100 years of the EFA’s establishment.
