Calm returns in Kibra after night of protests

KIBRARelative calm has returned in Kibra slums after night demos by residents accusing police of using excessive force during Monday’s anti IEBC demos.

Police are currently keeping vigil in the area to monitor the situation.

Area youth leader Daniel Orogo says the night demos were expected, this is after it is alleged police shot at CORD leader Raila Odingas car during Monday’s demo calling on the government to listen to the grievances of the opposition regarding  IEBC to avert such incidences.

During the night demos, Officers shot a man in the stand-off  who was later rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.

Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam said a group of about 200 youth tried to uproot the railway but officers on patrol stopped them.

He said live shots were fired when some of the residents tried to take advantage of the chaos to break into people’s houses and loot property.
