A section of Mukuru slums residents are decrying the return of cartels who are demolishing their houses in open defiance of the government order to stop the demolitions.
The residents claim that the cartels have changed tactics and are now demolishing the houses in small units.
Stephen Kilonzo says that within a span of two months, the cartels have so far demolished five units of houses and evicted the owners.
“They are quietly demolishing our houses and this time round they are demolishing the houses as single units not the umbrella demolitions that attracted the government’s attention last time,” said Kilonzo.
Kilonzo says that the demolitions are being conducted by goons hired by the cartels.
“I pay my money to Orbit Chemicals who are the owners of this land. These cartels are however thirsty for these land because they have private developers they want to sell the land to for Ksh. 8 Million,” he said.
Kilonzo and other residents are now calling on Interior CS Fred Matiang’I and Orbit chemicals to quickly move in and stop the silent demolitions.
