Celebrations filled Homabay town today following the nullification of Governor Cyprian Awiti’s election by the court of appeal this morning.
Lady Justice Fatima Sichale who read the verdict on behalf of the three judge bench upheld the ruling by the High Court that quashed the election of Awiti.
Justice Sichale ruled that IEBC did not conduct the Homabay Gubernatorial election in a free and fair manner.
The initial petition had been filed by Awiti’s opponent Oyugi Magwanga who vied on an indpendent ticket.
Residents expressed their joy saying finally justice had been served.
“We are very happy with ruling and we want the people’s governor Oyugi Magwanga to come forward and speak to the residents of Homabay County,” said a resident.
Speaking after the ruling, Magwanga stated that he is ready to go back to the ballot to face the incumbent Cyprian awiti.
“I want to tell my opponent that if he is man enough then let us meets on the ballot. The electorates will decide,” Magwanga said.
