Children Advocacy groups call for inclusion of Children during Public Participation Stages
As the world commemorates Human Rights Day today, children advocacy groups are advocating for children’s participation in the formulation of policies touching them.
Eunice Kilundo of Child Fund Kenya says that children also need to be included during the public participation stages of county and national bills.
“In the county budgeting process there’s a provision for public participation that allows the public to provide their input and so children should be given an opportunity to share what they want to be budgeted for. Giving children an opportunity to share what they want to be mandated using the available platforms is what we are advocating for.” She said
Other issues that the groups also want articulated include monitoring and reporting rights of children, planning and budgeting for children.
According to Kilunda, the above key issues need to be achieved in order to ensure that safety and rights of children are protected.
