Chimano reveals being a member of the LGBTQ community

Sauti Sol band member Chimano has opened up on being a member of the LGBTQ community.

The musician says that he decided to come out as the member of the community because he felt he was ready.

“I have decided to say that I am part of the community because I am ready, it is not about that it is just that sexuality doesn’t define you it is just about me putting myself out there, my creativity and living my own truth. People should stop judging others for opening up on their sexuality as long as they are happy. Figure out what your own happiness is most importantly with yourself. Gather your own life.” Said Chimano.

Speaking on why he named his album ‘heavy is the crown’ Chimano says that the songs in the album expresses who he really is.

“It is the first time I actually expressing myself in a song, now you really get to know who Chimano is and that is a heavy crown to carry. Friday feeling represents the ball room culture in the LGBTQ community. It is just a representation of undergrown ball room culture within the queer community which I am part of. That is just my first expression of who exactly I am. So I am laying everything there, hakuna kujificha ficha anymore,” he added.

He also revealed that he does not mind loosing friends for opening up to be a member of the LGBTQ community.

“As a gate holder I have a bigger perception of life and whom I am supposed to be and at the end of it all it is my purpose and it is not about what everyone thinks I should be. And for whom I gain or loss at the end of the day so be it,” Chimano said.
