After Ghetto radio doing an exclusive investigative reporting on drugs abuse in Kibera, seventh day Adventist church- Kibera main in partnership with National Authority Campaign Against Drug Abuse NACADA has decided to conduct drug awareness in the area among youths.

According to Magret Kagwa head of health department in the church, majority of youths are using drugs because of idleness, family conflict among others.

“I want to confirm that majority of our youths are using drugs even here in the church. Unemployment, family conflicts are the ones that are leading youths to take drugs. Peer pressure when children join campus that is why we are also targeting youths who will be joining different campuses in the country,” said Mrs. Kagwa.

Among those who are attending the awareness is Sam Onduko who told Ghetto Radio that the event is more of beneficial and he wish that they should extend it beyond one month.

Cooperate With Government

“This awareness is more beneficial to me I don’t take it for granted. I have learnt a lot of new things like people usually says that using drugs relieve stress but  from the awareness I have found out that drugs will only relieve stress for a while, dangers of smoking and many more,” Said Sam.

Citizens, religious organizations should work with the government to finish drug abuse in the country

Mrs. Kagwa is  now calling on the community to partner with the government to kill this issue of drugs from  Kibera.

“As the church we cannot do it alone, the government cannot do it alone, we need to pull together as a team. When you see an addict advise him or her, take him to nearest medical facility for assistance because drugs cause death depression and many others. We need each other in fighting drugs in Kiber,” she concluded.

According to the report that was done by ghetto radio, out of ten stations  were drugs are being sold eight are owned by women while two are owned by men.
