City Market Traders Facing Death Threats For Exposing Rot In The Market

Our Lives Are In Danger City Market Shop Owners Now Claim

The war between the meat and chicken hawkers at Nairobi City Market and shoppers within the market is far from over.

A section  of the shop owners have  told Ghetto Radio News  that their lives are in danger.

The traders exclusively told Ghetto Radio News that they have taken a joint OB at the Central Police Station over the matter.

Stanley Mathenge Kamundia, head of security at the market says that the shop owners are receiving direct threats from the hawkers who are colluding with a section of the inspectorate and trade officials at city hall to do illegal businesses at the market.

‘‘We took a joint OB  on the 8th of this month at the Central Police Station with an OB number 97..08/07/2019, and we have made it clear to the police that our lives are in danger..I mean these are not just hawkers, we don’t know why they are enjoying protection from CityHall.’’ Kamundia said.

Kamundia also claimed that in a span of one year about three of them have lost their lives just because of the said ‘hawkers’ at City Market.

He now wants the governor to reclaim the grabbed land just behind City Market and allocate those hawking meat at City Market a move he says will permanently solve the stalemate.

‘‘There is a county land just behind us here that was grabbed let the governor build modern stalls for them. They relocate this people and also to pay revenue to the county instead of doing murky business at City Market without paying revenue or even having health certificates,’’ he added.

Meanwhile  the county government  has  appointed a seven man team to resolve the matter.
