Harambee Stars debutant Clyde Senaji has said that he is comfortable in playing in any position as long as he helps the team.
The Afc Leopards Midfielder was amongst the Bulk of local based players who helped the team beat the Falcons of Togo in the African Cup Of Nations qualifiers away in Lome.
Senaji was included in the squad in place of Johnstone Omurwa who was ruled out of the match through suspension helping the Stars win away for the first time in 18 years.
Together with KCB Defender Nahashon Alemba the team was victorious despite missing key players because of testing positive for Covid 19.
Amongst those who missed the match include defender Joash Onyango, Al-Duhail striker Michael Olunga, Zesco United goalkeeper Ian Otieno and Sofapaka midfielder Lawrence Juma.
“I was surprised and elated to get a chance of representing the country for the first time and despite the stage fright the other members of the team and the Coach helped in easing the pressure, “he said.
Harambee Stars Coach Jacob “Ghost” Mulei praised the 23 year old former Tusker and Vihiga United player saying that Senaji is among the 50 players they have been monitoring in the Kenya Premier League while featuring for Leopards in defense.
“Senaji is a good player who has helped Leopards in the league whereby they have conceded few goals and having been playing in the hood in the offseason tournament Kothbiro in Ziwani I knew he will cope with the pressure,” he added.
Despite winning the match, the stars failed to Qualify for the Afcon games to be played in Cameroon.
Stars will now focus on the 2022 World Cup qualifiers which kicks off in June where they have been drawn against neighbours Uganda, Rwanda and Mali.
Harambee Stars motivational partner, Odibets, hosted the team at a luncheon at a Nairobi Hotel.
Odibets General Manager Dedan Mungai congratulated the team on the win against Togo and assured them their sponsorship was here to stay.
The betting firm awarded the team, Kenya Shillings 2.5 million.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa thanked Odibets for their support to the team and called on the government to issue Covid-19 vaccines to players in the league.
“I would like to express my gratitude to our motivational partner, Odibets, that has shown immense support to the team,” said FKF President Nick Mwendwa.
” I call upon the government to vaccinate all the football players in the country so as to be able to continue with the league matches that will help make it easier to scout players who will feed the National team,” opined Mr. Mwendwa.
Harambee Stars now shifts focus towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June. The team is pooled in Group E and will play against Mali, Uganda, and Rwanda.
