Construction of Terraces to begin at Camp Toyoyo
Plans to put up Terraces in Eastland’s Camp Toyoyo are underway courtesy of the Makadara CDF.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio Sports, Camp Toyoyo’s Chairman George Magina i says the pitch generates close to Ksh 300,000 in a Month.
“Every club in Makadara area wants to use the pitch whether for training or booking the pitch for their matches, this tells you that the pitch can make good profits if the terraces were there,” said George.
George a.k.a Chidhe as he is porpularly known reiterates that with the terraces, the pitch will be able host big matches including the Kenya Premier League.
Expectations were high when Camp Toyoyo was opened as Makadara residents saw a brighter future with the Stadium at the doorstep.
Meanwhile, despite the challenges, the pitch has brought positive changes not only to clubs but also to the area residents.
According to George, the renovation of the Pitch has contributed to the reduction of crime as the young people have gone back to participate in football.
Stephen Otieno popularly known as Raul is a coach to the Junior clubs in Jericho. He says the pitch contributes to the safety of the area residents as many youths have turned to participating in football.
“The pitch was a crime zone as the youths took the advantage of the dark to kill and steal from passers by.
This is before the installation of the flood lights but now even women are able to go through the pitch during late hours.”
At the moment Camp Toyoyo has a busy schedule compared to when Jericho all Stars was the only club using the pitch as the area residents also use the field for exercises.
Clubs including Gor Mahia,Liberty among others use the field for training and on weekends there are bookings done by the clubs for matches.
This way Camp Toyoyo is generating not enough but good financial benefits.
