Kevin Kang’ethe wanted in US for murder charge to be detained at Nairobi Remand Prison after he was recaptured earlier today and rearraigned and Milimani Law Court
According to Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, it will not be safe for Kang’ethe to be remanded in a police station having escaped from the Muthaiga Police Station.
He declined to grant the orders to have only his counsel visit him saying doing so will deny him his liberty as provided for in the constitution.
The Director of Public Prosecution had applied to have Kang’ethe who is wanted in the United States remanded at the Industrial Area Prison pending the hearing and determination of the extradition proceedings.
Prosecuting Counsel Vincent Monda argued that after escaping from Muthaiga police station he should not held at any Police station.
The rearrest followed his dramatic escape from heavily guarded Muthaiga Police Station.
He is awaiting extradition proceedings 19th February 2024 to the US to face charges of murdering his girlfriend Margaret Mbati in Boston, leaving her body in his car at the airport and fleeing to Kenya
