The government has now directed matatu operators to scale down the number of passengers they are ferrying in a move to maintain social distance hence curbing the spread of Covid 19 virus.
In a new directive Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe says all 14 seater public service vehicles will only carry eight passengers , those carrying twenty five passengers will only be allowed to carry fifteen passengers.
‘‘All public operators service vehicle operators are advised to observe high level of hygiene during this period, in order to maintain social distance,14 seater Matatus will carry a maximum of eight passengers, 25 seater vehicles will carry a maximum of 15 passengers,’’he Said.
Pubs and entertainment joints are also on lock down and owners have been directed to operate until 7.30 pm. This directive on pubs takes effect on 23rd Monday next week.
Meanwhile Fumigation exercise for major markets such as Gikomba in Nairobi will begin tomorrow and all market heads have been advised to ensure social distance is maintained.
