A family in Nairobi’s Dandora area is appealing for help to bring their kin who allegedly died in Saudi Arabia.

Mary Wanjiku says that last month on the 8th she received reports that her sister Ruth Waithera had been killed.

Wanjiku says that she was given the report by Waithera’s friend who said that Waithera died after she fell down the stairs.

“On the 8th of Aprill 2023, I received a report from friend in Saudi Arabia that my sister had died. She told me that she died after falling down the stairs.

“I asked how she had known about my sister’s death, she said that it is people she was working with that had given her the report. She then gave a photo of my sister’s body lying on a staircase after I asked to be showed,” narrates Wanjiku.

Embassy refused to help

Wanjiku says that immediately after receiving the report, she then attempted to call her sister, her phone went through but she did not pick.

“We tried calling her, her phone was going through but she was not picking, so we thought that she was probably lying,” she said.

After some days, her sister’s phone stopped going through and she also went quiet.

“It is now three weeks since she went silent, her phone is now not going through. We have started to believe that she is actually not alive, maybe she died.”

Wanjiku’s attempt to go the Embassy in a bid to help find their sister or even bring back the body, were futile.

“We went to the Embassy and they told us that they could not help us since my sister was under contract. The other problem is that when she landed in Saudi Arabia, she left the first employer because of abuse.

“The agency that also took her to Saudi Arabia has also denounced her because she left her first employer.”
