He moves around and conducts demolitions in Pumwani and Eastleigh areas in open defiance of the law and Covid-19 protocols.

His demolitions that are sometimes conducted in the wee hours of the night are heavily guarded by police officers.

This private developer known as Ahmed is a no respecter of humanity, so do the residents say.

“We repelled him last time when he came to demolish a house at the Pumwani Maternity Staff Quarters,” said Peter Obumsese a resident of Pumwani.

A church in Eastleigh and a garage in Pumwani are so far some of the pieces the private developer has grabbed in Eastleigh. The church which was demolished at 3 am left worshippers reeling in pain and agony.

Currently the private developer has his eyes set on a Pumwani Maternity Hospital Staff House. The three bedroomed house which is currently occupied by Barnabas Asembo a doctor working at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital has so far survived two demolition attempts.

Dr. Barnabas Asembo who works at the Pumwani Hospital says that he was shocked to wake up one morning to find bulldozers bringing down the fence to his house.

“When i questioned why they were demolishing the wall, they told me that they had been sent to demolish hit. They told me that I should also move from the house since it has been sold,” said Asembo.

Shocked by the news, Dr. Asembo went and made an inquiry at City Hall, only to be told that there was no order of demolition and that the property had not been sold.

“A man of Somali origin known as Ahmed, came to me and told me that he wants to fence the place since the space has been sold to him. But I demanded that he gives me a letter authorizing him to evict me,” he stated.

Dr. Asembo says he has tried to seek the hospital’s intervention to no avail.

“I have been forced to hire the services of some youth to protect me because am afraid that they might come and demolish the house when I am still inside,” he stated.

Apart from the Puwmani Land, the developer has also grabbed a church in Eastleigh. The Wings Of Life Church was demolished last month allegedly by the same private developer.

“Who is this private developer with the audacity to go after public land right under the watch of the county government and law enforcers?” Dr. Asembo asks.

Pumwani Maternity Administration has since refused to comment on the matter.
