Date set for the 11th Edition of Madoka Half Marathon
Date for this year’s Madoka half marathon was announced on Thursaday with the organizers of the race expecting a huge turn out in Wundanyi,Taita Taveta County.
The 11th edition of the race is slated for October 22 2016 and “will be flagged off by the British High Commissioner Nic Hailey” said the race founder,Major (rtd) Marsden Madoka.
Madoka disclosed that he has already received applications from participants including elite runners as the organizers are looking to tap more talents from across the country.
Madoka who was accompanied by Athletics Kenya President, Jackson Tuwei,was speaking at Riadha house where he received sponsorship worth Ksh 3 million from Safaricom and Huawei Technology Kenya.
Huawei Technology Kenya Chief Executive Officer Dean Yu handed a cheque of Ksh 1Million while Safaricom gave Ksh 2Million for the race.
The winners in the women’s and men’s races will pocket Ksh 500000 up from 250000 paid last year whereas 1st and 2nd runnerz up will carry home ksh 250000 and 100000 respectively.
Athletics Kenya (AK) President (rtd) General Jack Tuwei lauded Marsden Madoka for having held the race for eleven years running.
“It is not easy for an individual to support an event of this kind.It is has been great achievement”
“Many of the big names in the country have grown through such kind of events and I want to encourage our athletes to come and take part and show support for Madoka”.
At the same time plans to construct a high altitude training centre at Taita hills was also unveiled.
