DCI arrest members of a Ruaka syndicate that lures people through online dating, then tortures them

DCI Detectives have arrested four members of a notorious syndicate that has been luring unsuspecting victims through online dating sites at Ruaka Shopping Center.

A Turkish national who had been abducted and was being tortured by the suspects  in one of the houses was in the process arrested.

The four suspects, three men and one woman reportedly lure the suspects to their dens before torturing and extorting money from them.

“DCI officers based in Lang’ata have been in Pursuit of the notorious syndicate that has been luring unsuspecting victims through online dating sites to their dens before torturing & extorting money from them has this evening seen the arrest of Four more suspects at Ruaka shopping center,” said the DCI.

The Turkish man had been lured into the house by the female suspect namely Catherine Mumbi Kivuva into the house with the pretense of a date only to hand him in the hands of the torture suspects, Bernard Mbunga and Fredrick Mutiso Mutua.

“Acting on intelligence  @DCI_KenyaLang’ata Detectives who have been pursuing the case raided a house within Ruaka, only to find a Turkish national being subjected to torture by two men; Bernard Mbunga & Fredrick Mutiso Mutua. A third suspect; Catherine Mumbi Kivuva who lured the victim to the said house following an online date was also at the house where the three were immediately arrested,” tweeted the DCI.

The fourth suspect; Kelvin Nzioki was arrested at the Ruaka Cooperative Bank ATM booth, having the victim’s ATM cards and pins ready for transactions, besides having obtained some cash through the victim’s Mpesa.

“It has since been established that the first suspect (Bernard Mbunga) was wanted after escaping through a perimeter wall in an earlier incident where an Indian national was robbed in like manner at Imara Daima, before recruiting the new team that has been nabbed today,” they stated.

A Coop Bank PDQ machine and assorted mobile phones confiscated, with the victim being taken for medical attention. All suspects placed in custody pending arraignment.
