DCI detectives have arrested a police officer and a woman who are believed to be members of a syndicate that has been defrauding Kenyans through mobile loans.
The two Boniface Nthenge and Lucy Syombua have allegedly been registering sim cards using stolen IDs and then using the sim cards to fraudulently acquire loans from a leading mobile service provider.
Nthenge and Syombua who are stationed in Kitengela were arrested by police officers based in Kiambu.
“The two are believed to be members of a syndicate that has been fraudulently registering sim cards using stolen identity cards and then using them to acquire loans and other benefits from a leading mobile Service provider.,” said the police.
Hundreds of fraudulently registered sim cards and an electronic equipment believed to be used for hacking purposes were recovered from the lady’s house in Umoja- Nairobi.
Investigations into other activities of this syndicate are ongoing as detectives pursue other syndicate members for arrest and arraignment.
