Government deputy spokesperson Gabriel Muthuma now says the demolitions in riparian land will continue until the government recovers all riparian land along major rivers in the country.
According to Muthuma the exercise is being carried in good faith and no one is being target unfairly.
‘‘It is government intention to protect lives, to also reclaim those riparian land. The pictures is not floods alone but we have a lot to fix including the conversation around climate change and how best we can protect our rivers.’’ Muthuma told Ghetto Radio News.
He has defended the manner in which the exercise is being carried out calling on leaders not to politicise the exercise.
“Those who are truthful will tell you that we have given the hot meal, shelters and the 10,000 shillings that was promised by the government.. we are taking care of them and anything your here out there that the victims are neglected should be treated as lies.’’ Muthuma said.
Cs Kindiki on Compensation
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki 25,000 households have received funds pledged to them by President William Ruto.
“Already, 25,000 households have received the pledged government support of Sh10,000 per household, while the remaining households will receive theirs by close of business Friday, May 31.Those affected by these orders will receive priority consideration in the ongoing affordable housing programme,” Kindiki said.
“No one will sleep hungry. No child will sleep hungry. We have enough money to buy food for everyone who has been affected by floods in Nairobi and the entire country.” he added.
