Faith Kipyegon and world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum are among Kenyans feted during national Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nairobi on Tuesday.
President William Ruto honored Kipyegon with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.) award.
The Golden Heart of Kenya is the highest category of presidential awards.
This comes a day after Kipyegon was named Women’s track athlete of the year by World Athletics on Monday after setting three world records in the 1500m, the mile and the 5,000m.
She also completed a 1500m-5,000m double at the world championships.
Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, will receive recognition for his awe-inspiring feat of breaking the world marathon record in Chicago by completing the race in two hours and 35 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by Eliud Kipchoge.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and world 300m steeplechase bronze medalist Faith Cherotich were also feted for their exemplary performance.
