Dozens of people were Tuesday left homeless when a huge fire razed down a huge part of a slum in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Embakasi South constituency.
Though no casualties were reported, the huge fire rage consumed the over 100 iron sheet structures.
The fire is said to have started from one of the affected structures opposite St. Mary’s Nazareth School.
No casualties were reported in the incident that started at around 12:00 noon.
Inaccessible Pathways
Residents say that firefighters had difficulties in accessing the site of the fire due to lack of access roads.
“The engines cannot get in and the fighters are here making calls. There is no road there,” said Erick Ambuche, a resident at Mukuru Kwa Njenga.
He added that the fire spread fast due to heavy winds and presence of cooking gas that exploded in intervals as locals fought it with bare hands and other crude weapons.
