Police were on Wednesday forced to use teargas canisters to disperse the public after a section of rowdy youths pelted Deputy President William Ruto’s convoy with stones in Kondele, Kisumu County.
The pelting of Ruto’s convoy with stones in turn triggered a clash with the police officers who were trying to contain the situation.
Before the police came in, Ruto had tried to calm down the rowdy youths in vain. He accused his opponents of hiring and using youths to throw stones.
“Kisumu is in Kenya. We must work hard to ensure that this habit of throwing stones comes to an end. We must get rid of the leaders who hire young people to throw stones,” Said Ruto.
Earlier in the day Ruto had a great reception at Jua Kali area and Obote Road.
The Deputy President is on a three day development /political tour within Nyanza region, which has long been viewed as a Raila Odinga backyard.
Despites the chaos that erupted in Kondele, DP Ruto dished money to bodaboda operators and mama mbogas in Kondele.
“Kazi ni kazi. Mimi nataka niwaambie vijana wa Kondele, watu wa bodaboda. Mimi nimewaletea shilingi milioni Mbili na nusu ya watu ya bodaboda ya watu wa Kondele,” added Dp Ruto.
“Wamama wa mama mboga, nimewaletea shilingi milioni mbili ili waweze kuendeleza biashara yao,” concluded Ruto.
The Deputy President then proceeded to Migori County where he received a warm reception.
