Police and Nairobi county askaris today blocked Boda boda operators from entering the central business district after a botched demonstration organized by the boda boda riders early this morning.
Those who defied were arrested and their motorbikes confiscatted by the officers manning strategic entry points.
The drama continued better part of the day .
Nairobi County Inspectorate chief officer Tito Kilonzi says the operation to weed boda boa out of the CBD will continue as he faults the group for not heeding to governors’ call to vacate the area.
‘‘We will continue arresting them we have zones stipulated by the county where they should operate but the moment they go against that we don’t have another option but to arrest them.’’ Tito said.
Boda boda operators led by their CBD Chairman has however, opposed the manner in which they are being handled by the county asakris.
‘’We want to do our business in peace but if you are arresting us let them do it with human face.’’ said.
In an interview with Ghetto Radio News today transport executive committee Hitan Majedia says they have already allocated enough funds for boda boda sheds in this financial year ,and tha the count will construct the a shed.
He has however, asked them to have a sacco or union so that the county government can get get it easy to engage them in some of the policies.
‘‘This is a big challenge we are facing , conducting public participation is very difficult because of many splinter groups among the boda boda operators .’’
Areas blocked today includes, Moi Avenue,Kenyatta Avenue and Nyayo round about.
